Itinerary
Day 1:
Our trip to the Moroccan desert starts in Marrakech. We can pick you up from the airport, your hotel, or any place you choose. Our friendly driver and guide will meet you, and we will travel in a comfortable car.
We will cross the Atlas Mountains using the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the highest road in the mountains, about 2,200 meters above sea level. The views are beautiful, and we’ll see Berber villages that look like they’ve stayed the same for centuries.
Before we reach Ouarzazate, we’ll visit the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, an old mud and straw fortress that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s famous for being in many movies. You can walk around and take photos (entry is optional). We’ll also stop at the Taourirt kasbah for more pictures.
Next, we’ll take the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs” through the Valley of the Roses and the Dades Valley. The Valley of the Roses is filled with rose bushes, and the Dades Valley has palm trees, birches, and almond trees growing by the river.
We’ll spend the night in a lovely riad in the Dades Valley. You can relax and get ready for the next day’s adventure as we go deeper into the Moroccan desert.
Day 2:
Our journey today will take us to Merzouga, famous for the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes. On the way to Merzouga, we’ll visit the Todra Gorges, known for their tall rock walls that rise up to 200 meters. These cliffs were carved by the Todra River over many years. The road through the gorges is full of twists and turns, with amazing views all around.
We’ll take a break from driving to walk through some of the most beautiful parts of the gorges. It’s a great chance to enjoy the scenery up close.
After that, we’ll continue to Merzouga, a special town in the Moroccan desert. Here, we’ll leave our car and either ride dromedaries or use a 4x4 vehicle to reach the Erg Chebbi dunes.
We’ll stay in a Berber tent camp in the dunes. The camp is comfortable and has everything you need. The real highlight is the view. As the sun sets, the dunes glow beautifully, and at night, the sky is full of stars. In this magical setting, you’ll enjoy a tasty dinner and a peaceful night in the desert.
Day 3:
After breakfast, we start our last day heading north through the Tafilalet palm grove. Along the 20 km road, you’ll see thousands of palm trees. This road leads us to the Ziz Valley, where the river flows down from the High Atlas Mountains to water the palm grove. We’ll stop at a high viewpoint to enjoy the amazing view of the valley and the town of Aoufous.
Next, we’ll stop in Midelt, a town in the middle of the Atlas Mountains. You’ll have free time here to eat lunch and relax. In the afternoon, we’ll continue through the Cedar Forests, where we might see some monkeys.
After that, we visit Ifrane, a city in the Middle Atlas Mountains at 1,630 meters above sea level. Ifrane has wide streets, clean parks, and buildings that look like they’re from Switzerland. That’s why it’s called “Moroccan Switzerland.” It’s also known for its ski resort, Michlifen.
By around 6 PM, we’ll arrive in Fez and take you to your hotel. This ends our wonderful 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fez.
